Poor Sandy: You are too funny! Here in Sweden, I can use my phone way out in the archipelago on a tiny island. In Australia, I may be able to get coverage in the city, but definitely not as soon as I am out of it.
hey there Ken. Stalking a little bit of your trip through facebook posts. Sounds like you are having a great time. I, too, traveled part of that path on a major cross country adventure about a year and a half back. (http://bmwaldron.blogspot.com/2007/11/i-did-not-see-thu-anywhere.html)
Assuming you are going to head into Mesa Verde. If you're not, you HAVE to go. It's a spectacular experience. Cortez is the nearest town, but it's a pretty sleepy town. Looks like you are planning to pit stop in Durango-- very nice. If you haven't made your lodging arrangements yet, I highly recommend the Strater hotel (http://www.strater.com/). Really cute and very much in the spirit of the town. I didn't do the train ride up the silver mine, but it looks to be a fun thing.
Santa Fe is a neat little town. I spent the night at the Turquoise Bear (http://www.turquoisebear.com/). They have a rich writer's history and a neat compound.
Road Trip 2013 (RT13) marks our 5th road trip in six years. This year: Shenandoah, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Mid-Atlantic Coast. Last year was
the South. We did the Northeast in 2010 and the Southwest 2009. After 2008, we learned to cover fewer miles in order to spend more time in each place. More like a vacation; less like The Amazing Race.
AAAHHHHHHAAHHHHHHHH! That's what we're talking about! Keep those banana calls coming! We want more ..... (bananas)! We want more .... (bananas)!
