Friday, June 5 - After a well-needed good-night’s sleep, we had a great breakfast at the Jailhouse Café in downtown Moab. As we talked about the agenda for the day, we realized that we were too aggressive: Canyonlands, then drive 3 hours, stop at the 4 Corners Monument, and then swing by Mesa Verde National Park, all before getting to our destination of Durango. It totaled more than 7 hours of driving, not including any stops. Our first hard decision presented itself: we had to drop something. After doing the time calculations, we came to the realization that driving to Canyonlands, visiting the park, and then driving back to Moab was at least a full day itself. Thus, we decided that we would not be able to do it justice and still get to our destination that night. Plus, I’m almost embarrassed to say that I was getting a bit of red-rock-canyon-national-park fatigue, so, with some sadness, we headed south. The consolation was that we’d be able to at least get another national park in today – Mesa Verde – and had heard that it was great.
As we left Moab, we saw what was probably the biggest roadside sign we've seen for the tackiest roadside "attraction" ever - Hole N" The Rock. (Yes, they use quotation marks instead of an apostrophe - EVEN on the huge sign painted on the rock. Guess they forgot to check their grammar book before painting.)
